Welcome to I Heart Data Viz. My name is Jesse Bockstedt and this site is where I organize my thoughts, examples, and tutorials for the Data Visualization course I teach at Emory University. I’m an associate professor in Emory’s Goizueta Business School in the Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM) area. You can learn more about me on bockstedt.com.
I know what you’re thinking, do we really need another blog about data visualization? Admittedly, there are plenty of great viz blogs out there and I highly recommend you take a look at them. Some of my favorites are FlowingData, JunkCharts, The Pudding, Graphic Detail @ The Economist, and Makeover Monday. On I Heart DataViz I hope to go a little deeper into how you make visualizations, the different tools used, and how to use visualizations for exploratory data analysis. This site will also serve as a resource for students that have taken my Data Visualization course at Emory – providing access to data sets and tutorials we covered in class.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, critiques, and suggestions – so please leave comments.
Happy vizzing!
Jesse
